Prior to becoming the inn’s fifth owners, we took the radical route of selling our house, buying an RV and hitting the road for 15 months on a quest to find our next business venture. At the time, we thought it would be an RV park, but, 27 states later, we naturally gravitated back to New England and the concept of becoming innkeepers emerged along the way.
We discovered the Bear Mountain Inn, a beautiful property that seemed to have all we were looking for. Six months later, March 31, 2017, on Julie’s birthday, we purchased the inn. We quickly had to finish converting and renovating the old barn into a new wedding/event space with our first wedding coming up June 2017. We finished it on time and had a great season of weddings during our first year.
November, 2017 we closed the inn and focused our attention on major renovations, which included updating electrical, plumbing, HVAC and interior design with help from our talented interior designer Joanne Palmisano.
We transformed the property into a very special place and love hosting so many wonderful guests, weddings and corporate events. We feel so fortunate to have talented team members who each bring something special to the Bear Mountain Inn + Barn.
After 3 years of building the business, we asked ourselves, what’s next? How do we grow? Answer: Joshua Hurd. He also has a special place in our hearts because he and his husband Nick were married here in November 2019. He fell in love with the Bear Mountain Inn + Barn, and our mission to grow from the foundation that we have. He has a vast background in hospitality, business development and a history of working to exceed a guest’s expectations. We are so thrilled that Joshua is our General Manager. With his creative passion for family, friends, and his drive for excellence he has been helping us grow into an exciting future.
Cassie joined us in November 2017. She and her husband Pat were married here just a month before. We really got to knew her in the months leading up to her wedding weekend. We loved her personality, attention to detail and positive attitude. She lives less than 10 minutes away and we often joked with her about joining our team. It turned out that we weren’t joking, because shortly after he big weekend we approached her to be the Bear Mountain Inn + Barn’s Wedding Coordinator. She enthusiastically said yes! She is ambitious, highly organized and loves working with our couples to realize their perfect wedding weekend.
Terri is a crucial cog in the wheel of operations here at BMI and has been with the inn longer than we have! She was hired by the previous owners and when we purchased the property we were thrilled she stayed on with us. She oversees housekeeping and the kitchen. She is an amazing cook, creating delicious homemade breakfast dishes including her famous Terri’s Terrific Banana Bread and Granola. She is also famous for her signature Butterscotch cookies that fills the inn with a mouth watering aroma that our guests have come to expect when they check in.
